Fred Vey

Fred Vey has been writing and singing songs throughout Newfoundland since the 1970s. His music combines the influences of traditional Irish music with the more contempory styles of mainland North America. Against a backdrop framed by the rugged North Atlantic ocean his lyrics can be both amusing and tragic.

History of Fred Vey

Fred is a retired schoolteacher, having taught in a number of communities throughout Newfoundland. He has always had an interest in music and made it an integral part of his teaching. An accomplished musician, he plays a number of instruments including guitar, bass, mandolin, accordion, harmonica, dobra, and borhan . He has performed across the province and has released several cds of his own original material.. Having a special interest in NFLD. culture, much of his original material reflects that theme and he has written hundreds of songs. Currently working as an audio consultant and session musician for The MusicBox, he is credited on many cds. recorded by other artists.
