How to Sell Your Music Online

If you are looking to sell your music online, then Songstall offers some perfect solutions. With a free account you can upload your music, set a sale price, customise your own shop page and sell your music, all in just minutes.

How to sell your music online - getting started

To get started selling your music online, you'll need a Songstall artist account first. Artist accounts are totally free, and you pay nothing until you make a sale. What's more, the whole process is simple and really quick - you can sell your music online in just a few minutes.

To create an account, you need to enter your basic details about you and your artist. For example if you are in a band or have a stage name, you can name your page accordingly, but you enter your real name as your contact information, which will not be shown to the public when you sell your music.

Once you have an account, you'll see your account overview page. Here you'll see your current balance with a link to see an itinerary of your recent online music sales. You can also see previous statements detailing all the historical sales of your songs and albums.

How to sell your music online - uploading your music

From the account overview page you have two main areas, one listing your albums and the other listing your singles. When you sell a single, it is only available as a track on its own. However if you create and sell an album, then you can also sell each track on that album individually, too. So you don't need to create singles if you sell all your songs as part of an album.

Creating and selling an album

To create an album to sell online, click the 'Create a new album' link. You'll be taken to the start of the create album process. You just need to enter the details requested and follow the steps provided. On the first step you'll enter the album name, release year, choose an appropriate genre, and set the price you want to sell it online for. You can also enter a description if you want to, this will appear on the album page.

On the second step you'll have the chance to upload each of your mp3s to sell as part of the album. For each mp3 you upload you can then add information about it - the title, the sale price (if you want to sell the song individually as well as part of the album), plus optional description and lyrics information.

On the third step you can upload artwork and images to your album. You can also toggle between the album and any of its tracks so you can upload images for each separate song as well. Songstall suggest you upload as many quality images as possible as this will help your music sell better.

Creating and selling a music single

If you don't have enough tracks for an album or you have one or more songs that aren't part of your album, then you can add them as singles. To start click the 'Upload a single' link on the account overview page. You'll be taken to the step-by-step process to upload a single to sell online.

On the first step you just need to select your mp3 file and upload it. Our system will detect the title where possible, so on the second step you just need to confirm the title and select the sale price you wish to sell your song for online. You can also enter a description and your lyrics, these will help you sell the song to your potential customers.

On the third step you can upload your images for the song. We recommend you upload at least one image as this will be the main artwork where your song appears in our listings, and when your customers view your song's page a quality image will help sell the song to them.

How to sell your music online - selling music in a widget on your own website

With Songstall not only can you sell your music online via your own Songstall page, but you can also create a web widget which you can then put on your own website so you can sell your music on your own website!

To create a web widget, click the 'Manage your web widgets' link on your account overview page. From here you can modify any existing widgets or create a new one. When you configure a widget to sell your music on your website, you'll have various choices, such as the heading for the widget, the width and height of the widget, your choice of colours and finally the items you want to sell in your widget.

You can sell albums, album tracks or singles in your widget. Each song will appear in the widget with its name, sale price, a 30-second sample and a button to add it to the basket. Your customers can then click the secure checkout link which will take them to the checkout process and they can buy your music.

A sample of your widget appears and updates as you configure the widget options. When you are finished, click Save. You will then be given your widget code. Simply copy the whole code (be sure not to miss any or modify or your widget might not work), then paste the code into your website. And you're done! You now have your music sell on your own website.
